” In which MetalJim tries to talk himself out of an expensive minis purchase…

Okay, folks, let’s get a couple of things out of the way at the start. The people who play Games Workshop miniature games are sort of a breed apart in the gaming world. To an extent, GW fanboys are despised by both the D&D fanboys and also the euro boardgame fanboys. The GW world is a different sort of geek hobby lifestyle. Is it a sport for spoiled rich kids? Or a misunderstood geek subculture?

Lately I’ve been a little bit obsessed with Warhammer 40K. Seems like something new to try out, even if it isn’t cheap. There are lots of reasons why this hobby is a bad fit for me (more on that below), but it’s definitely 40K that I’m jonesing for. I know I don’t want to play Warhammer Fantasy or any other wargame that involves painting minis. It’s 40K or nothing. “

This blog is a project I am conducting documenting my experience of learning how to play and paint Warhammer Fantasy with my wife. I hope to post how much I spend, what I buy, and my wife's reactions. We will unbox everything together. I hope this blog will provide insight into how this all works and also encourage others to make their loved ones a part of what they enjoy.

Update: The direction of the site has now changed. So as I am sure its not a huge shock my wife Karissa was not into warhammer Fantasy/40k =(. I never got around to actually playing the game because lets face it the game is super hard to set time aside for. Even if I did bring my army to the local shop no one really wants to play a 750 pt game.

The focus of the site is moving toward warmachine. It all Starts with a battle box. We will see where this goes.
